Date: Fri, 21 Feb 1997 02:49:21 -0800 (PST) Subject: While in Frascati... So far things here in Frascati have been going reasonably well. Sharing a room with a Russian theoretical physicist and having a communal bathroom was not on the top of my list, but I'll survive. Tonight I'll get my own room and bathroom. The trip down was pretty much what you'd expect of a 11 hour train ride. I'm glad I was taking the train though because the two Swiss people who were driving down with all the equipment spent 5 hours at customs. The three Swiss folk abandonned me today. It seems that no one here wants to be "trained" today, so I don't have much work to do today and they don't work on the weekends (lazy sods). I guess I'll be spending my weekend touring Rome or something. I realize this sounds cool, but have you ever gone sight seeing by yourself? The coolness quickly runs out. One Italian thing I have rediscovered is their Gelato. Perhaps not quite as good (or as fun) as in Venice (nothing says fun like a map that looks like impressionist art and only 10 minutes to get back to the Gelateria before it closes :) but it's still pretty darn good. Unfortunately, dinner ran late last night and although we wandered all over the place at 23:30, there were no open gelaterias to be found. The Swiss post-doc and I were quite dissapointed. Atleast I've got all weekend to get some more :) The weather here is sunny and reasonably warm (15 degrees) but in the evenings it still gets a little nippy. I brought a pair of shorts with me but I really don't think I'll be wearing them. The fields of daisy are very pretty. The internet connection here is even worse than in Neuchatel. Half the time I cannot logon to Canada at all, and when I can, I'm lucky if I can get my username and password in before the system times out. Hope all is going well in the rest of the world, Aaroni da Frascati
